The Hanseatic town of Stade

Stade has one of the most beautiful historical town centres in northern Germany. Lovingly restored town houses and about a thousand years of history characterise the town. The largest fruit-growing area in Northern Europe, the "Altes Land" ("Old Country") is located just outside the gates of the town. Explore this unique landscape by bicycle. Along the way, there are farm shops selling fresh jam, cakes and fruit straight from the tree. A bike ride along the popular Elberadweg cycle route is also highly recommended. Many visitors will appreciate its proximity to the city of Hamburg, which can be reached by the number 3 S-Bahn train or by the "Metronom" train.
